The Abusive Wife: Ministering To The Contentious Woman

By: Dr. David D. Edgington PhD

While many view abuse as one-directional, Christian tradition and Scripture reveal a deeper, often-overlooked reality: wives can also exhibit abusive behavior—verbal, emotional, spiritual—that devastates marriages.

While many view abuse as one-directional, Christian tradition and Scripture reveal a deeper, often-overlooked reality: wives can also exhibit abusive behavior—verbal, emotional, spiritual—that devastates marriages.

In The Abusive Wife, pastor and counselor David D. Edgington brings clarity and compassion to this sensitive issue. Drawing on pastoral experience and biblical wisdom, he equips readers with the tools to recognize, confront, and heal from patterns of hostility in marriages.

The author handles a subject that many leaders, pastors and counselors refuse to address. It is not for the courage they claim to have it is actually out of fear to address it because of the blow up it may cause. Read the book and seek to be just in the way you deal with marriage counseling.

I agree with reviewer Kendra that every pastor, counselor, and church leader should read this book. They need it in order to have a balanced, fair, and just approach to marriage conflict. It is needed most when the main root of the problems lie in the woman being contentious and striving to dominate & control instead of find resolution and love.

Dr. Edgingtons book is one that I truly found much needed in this time and age. Not only for men but for women as well who hopefully can see how they are contributing to the destruction of a marriage. Dr. Edgingtons book is very accurate in what really goes on in the home and precisely explains right from the fall how it came to be.

About the Author

David D. Edgington

David D. Edgington is a pastor, teacher, and biblical counselor with a deep commitment to upholding the authority of Scripture in every area of life—including marriage and family. With decades of ministry experience, he has walked alongside many who suffer silently in broken relationships, offering truth, grace, and clarity rooted in God’s Word.

David writes not to entertain but to confront—with a shepherd’s heart and a prophet’s voice. His passion is to see the church awakened to sin often ignored, and to call both men and women to repentance, renewal, and obedience to Christ.

The Abusive Wife reflects his conviction that biblical roles in marriage matter, and that peace in the home begins with truth and submission to God’s design.
